What’s the Best 2021 Chevrolet Corvette Trim? Here’s Our Guide

Quicker than a Porsche 911 and nearly half the price, the 2021 Chevrolet Corvette is a sports car with supercar credentials. Featuring a dramatic transformation to a mid-engine setup, the Corvette was crowned our 2020 Car of the Year. The 2021 Corvette is available as a coupe or convertible across three trim levels. 2021 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 1LT Trim Pros and Cons

With a base price of just over $60,000, the Corvette Stingray is a bona fide performance bargain. Unlike past Corvettes, the interior is also a nice place to spend time, and we even found it to be quieter inside than a Porsche 911. All the better to hear the 10-speaker Bose audio system, which comes standard with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. That’s a handy addition, as the only place to really store your phone is in a cubby between the two seatbacks.

Great fuel economy isn’t normally associated with sports cars, and the 2021 Corvette is no exception, netting only 15 mpg in the city. Out on the open road, however, it’s rated at 27 mpg highway. It’s both a little worse and better than the base Porsche 911, which is rated at 18/24 mpg with the PDK automatic, and the Acura NSX hybrid, which returns 21/22 mpg.

But if performance upgrades are what you’re after, look beyond the trim levels to the options sheet, and select the Z51 Performance package for approximately $6,000. Available as a standalone choice on any trim level, Z51-equipped Corvette Stingrays can be visually identified by a unique front splitter and rear spoiler. Performance upgrades include the brakes, suspension, exhaust and tires, and a shorter rear axle ratio with an electric limited-slip differential. The escalating trim levels beyond the 2021 Corvette 1LT focus purely on comfort and convenience.

2021 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 2LT Pros and Cons

If 10 speakers aren’t sufficient in a two-seater, opting for the Corvette 2LT rectifies that by cramming a 14-speaker Bose audio system into the cockpit. It’s playable through the 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which also features built-in navigation in this trim. The phone cubby gains wireless charging capability as well.

The low-slung nature of the Corvette means it’s prone to blind spots, so we’re grateful for the addition of the front HD camera and the rearview mirror that projects an HD image of what’s behind you, along with rear cross-traffic alert and blind-spot monitoring. We’re not as fond of the head-up display, but thankfully it can be turned off. One tech highlight is the front lift system. Available on the 2LT and 3LT trims, the feature can lift the car up to about two inches as it approaches up to 1,000 destinations you program into the car. So if your driveway is particularly steep, this feature may be worth it.

Four-season drivers will appreciate the heated steering wheels, as well as heated/ventilated memory  seats, which also provide power lumbar and bolster adjustments. Surprisingly, a more advanced theft-deterrent system with inclination and interior motion sensors is only standard starting with the 2LT trim, so park wisely if you opt for the 1LT. All told, a $7,300 increase in price results in a safer, more secure Corvette.

2021 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 3LT Pros and Cons

If high-quality touchpoints are an important part of the 2021 Corvette experience, have a look at the Corvette 3LT trim. The upper instrument panel, door trim panels and console cover are all wrapped in leather, accompanied by upgraded Napa leather sport seats with carbon fiber accents. It’s all topped off—literally—by microfiber covering the A-pillars and everything above them, including the headliner and sun visors.

Though this trim doesn’t add anything else beyond richer-looking (and feeling) materials, some buyers may find total justification in spending the roughly $4,500 premium over the 2LT for the privilege.

Which Corvette Model Is Best?

The sweet spot of the Corvette is found in the 2LT trim. Though the 1LT comes with those low-priced bragging rights, the $7,300 upcharge adds a healthy dose of features that make this sports car even more livable on a daily basis. On the other hand, the Z51 Performance package is an enticing alternative for nearly the same price. If performance and amenities are equally as important, then a 2LT with Z51 is the ideal package.
