Land Rover Defender Turned Into Limited Series 4×4 EV Is Headed To U.S.

It’s the classic go-anywhere Defender, but with an electric powertrain and a luxury twist courtesy of Twisted Automotive.

Twisted Automotive is a Land Rover Defender specialist based in the U.K. and it’s known for sprucing up the old Landie with luxury interiors, improved powertrains and tech. Most of the vehicles they go over retain the factory diesel engine, although some are V8-swapped, but now the company has just announced a limited series of 30 all-electric Defenders that will only be available in the States.

They are all short wheelbase 90 models with the soft top offered with two power outputs: the $185,000 NAS-E model with 214 horsepower and 280 pound-feet (380 Nm) or the $210,000 NAS-E Plus with 320 horsepower and 309 pound-feet (420 Nm). Both versions come with the same 60 kWh battery pack that provides a claimed 200 miles (322 km) of range; charging speed is up to 22 kW.

According to Twisted, these Landies are even more capable than the already capable Defenders they’re based on. Both their on- and off-road abilities have been enhanced, they say, through the use of custom suspension components, wheels, tires and brakes.

Also, judging by the way the press release is written, these vehicles are all aimed at the Californian market – even their color schemes have apparently been designed to match the natural colors present in the state. The color schemes are called Malibu, Yosemite and Tahoe and they get matching interiors too.
