Experts at FairFuelUK, the leading pressure group on road fees, have warned failure to reduce taxes risks creating a more “divided” electorate.. They have warned it is in the Government’s hands to reduce fees to prevent petrol and diesel drivers from being unnecessarily stung.
The group is calling for an urgent cut to the UK’s fuel duty rates.
They warn this would reduce inflation which would have a positive impact on the UK.
Dropping fuel duty rates would increase GDP, create more jobs and stimulate more consumer spending.
They warn this economic outcome would create extra income for the Treasury as a result of a buoyant economy.
Meanwhile, they warn cutting fuel duty would not influence the Government’s green plans in any way.
Instead, they believe it will create a safer and more secure economic resurgence.
Finally, FairFuel has warned the “cost of living crisis” is more relevant to people’s lives today than climate change and should be taken seriously.
Howard Cox, founder of FairFuelUK has also called for an “inquiry into the manipulation” of fuel costs.

Alongside this, they also want to see the launch of an independent ”PumpWatch” body to regulate fuel costs.
He said: “The Cost-of-Living crisis is now the ideal time for a visionary in-touch leader to take that control and reduce taxes to really help those who put him into power.
“Failure to do so will magnify an already unnecessarily created electoral divide.
“It is in the Prime Minister and Chancellor’s hands to lower fuel taxation now on the highest taxed diesel drivers in the world.
