Experts at USwitch warn herbal remedies such as CBD and Rescue Remedy could land road users in big trouble even though the substances are completely legal. Although herbal remedies are not a proper drug, they can still make road users drowsy and unaware of their surroundings.

Herbal remedies have been known to soothe anxiety which has made the product popular among nervous drivers.

USwitch said it has seen new, younger drivers often take these before getting behind the wheel.

However, CBD is a cousin of the marijuana plant and can induce similar effects.

It even contains a small amount of THC, the chemical which induces the effects of marijuana.

Although taking the legal amount of CBD will not see drivers pass the THC limit, USwitch warns drivers should still not drive on the products.

It warns CBD can create a “sense of drowsiness” and mean motorists feel “particularly relaxed”.

This can slow down reaction times which is not safe for driving.

Drivers who may have bought CBD which has not been officially licenced may find they are consuming a stronger herbal remedy than usual.

This could put your THC rates over the limit and risks being issued penalties for drug driving.

In another warning to road users, popular herbal medicine Rescue Remedy does contain small doses of alcohol.

One dose of Rescue Remedy contains around 10ml of beer or around a couple of teaspoons.

This means it is generally safe to take the medicine unless you are on the edge of crossing the legal limit.
