The new technology is designed to detect drivers who exceed speed limits rules when the lights turn green. However, the cameras will also be able to identify drivers who have jumped a red light.
The scheme is set to expand to Lancashire where councillors are keen to introduce the technology after successful trials elsewhere.
The cameras are initially set to be installed on the A59 but councillors say the scheme could be rolled out elsewhere if it’s effective.
A similar trial scheme in Blackburn and Darwen has been successful, picking up around 70 offences per day.
Around 3,000 people were caught out by the new cameras in Liverpool just one month after they launched in February 2019.
Furthermore, over 600 offences were detected across two speeds on the green cameras in Leicestershire during the first six months.
A further two were installed across the rest of 2019 with a further 2,200 incidents recorded.
The equipment is simple to install as it does not require any extra underground cabling work.
This means they can be installed easily without needing to dig up the road and disrupt the traffic flow.

The cameras can even be rotated around different junctions if a new problem area emerged in the region.
Motorists picked up by the cameras will be hit with a £100 speeding fine and three penalty points in line with national rules.
Motorists could be offered the chance to attend a speed awareness course instead of taking the points.
However, fines could be increased in certain situations based on the severity of the incident.
