When the Reagan Administration freed up American savings-and-loans institutions to take bigger risks and gamble on ever-sketchier investments, starting in 1982, things looked great for a couple of years. Then it all fell apart later in the decade, costing the American taxpayers close to $200 billion to clean up. During the good years, though, Empire of America in Buffalo sought the kind of deal-makers and hustlers who expected to be driving brand-new 380SELs within two years, and so they put together this 1983 magazine advertisement targeting just that demographic. By 1989, sadly, it all came tumbling down and those Benzes got replaced by Hyundai Excels.
